Dawn Ratcliffe, 28 is Brand Manager at Airangel.
Describe yourself in three words:
Over. Active. Imagination.
How would you define marketing?
Delivering effective communications though various mediums and providing a voice to a product or a service.
What advice would you give for someone starting their marketing career today?
As Marshall McLuhan said, ‘the medium is the message’. Too many conversations take place over email and I don’t think you can generate excitement or get to know your client that way.
What attracted you to your job?
When I joined Airangel, it was a new company with innovative, cutting-edge ideas. Guest internet access could’ve been conventional and boring but Airangel had really creative design concepts and were doing something unique – I couldn’t refuse to be part of that.
What was your first job?
A multimedia designer for Claremont Group Interiors.
How did you get your first job?
A friend knew the group design director, Ann Clarke. I was straight out of education, bubbling with ideas and needed someone to give me a chance. Ann did and I’ve not looked back since.
What’s your favourite holiday destination?
Queenstown, New Zealand
What other languages do you speak?
HTML
If you were a brand, what would you be and why?
Adobe - it stands for everything that is wonderful and creative in the world of design and branding. Seeing an Adobe application open with a blank documents gives you the feeling that anything is possible.
What is your all-time favourite slogan?
“I spy WiFI” it’s the slogan for the IPhone app we’re about the launch that will locate your nearest WiFi provider and offer details about other facilities available.
